Speaker 1 Well, three days, three days till the election. Which way is the world going? Well, we want to all live to be one hundred years old, and we have our resident genius, doctor Peter Mihalos with us and live long and prosper and doctor Mihlosa. What are we going to do to live long and prosper this week three days

to the election? Hopefully there’ll be a world to live in.

Speaker 2 Well, what we want to do and we’ll want to talk about is recently we saw some bad natural disasters with weather, and I think disaster preparation and hado metically prepare and how to prepare in general for a disaster, I think is a very important topic because in the end, what’s more important than our health and safety. And there’s

different types of preparation. There’s preparations if you’re at home, if there’s preparations if you’re in your car, preparations when you’re at work or when you’re traveling. And some of the important things are as people found out in the Carolinas and down in Florida when there was a problem with a natural disaster, and you lose power and you

lose the ability to move around freely because sometimes trees can fall, roads can be blocked that you want to definitely have the most important things, which are food and water. And water you want to have at least one gallon per person per day. You want to have non perishable foods and things like that aren’t going to ruin and

don’t need refrigeration. One of the great ways to get some protein are these canned sardines, salmine in tuna and cans and canned soups are very easy to handle. And of course you have to have a can opener. That’s important too. You make sure your car has fuel, and the fuel is important because you don’t know how long

there’ll be no electricity and you won’t be able to get fuel. And if you have to take people to doctor’s appointments or get to a hospital, that’s very important. If you have children, you’ve got to make sure that you know we have forecasts now in the old days, like in nineteen thirty eight when they had the Hurricane

Express one Mountain Long Island, New York, people had no forecast to just hit them, so there was a lot of loss of life and property. But you want to be able, especially when you have even your children, you know, babies, people don’t realize they need to have milk to feed babies and sometimes having some dry powdered milk and infant

formula and enough diapers is very important. And having a storage can because if there’s going to be any flooding, you want to have like a plastic sealed container to put in some of your important things, including some of your medicines, because when medicines get wet there kind of useless, then you have to try to I tell people to keep.

Speaker 1 A so in other words, we always have to be prepared. It’s like the people in North Carolina or South Carolina where the hurricane hit and they had no electricity and they had no medicines, and how do you best prepare for that?

Speaker 2 Well, you need to be able to for example, basic things like being able to see when it’s dark. You know, you have to have a flashlight because a lot of people forget and power outage. A lot of the elderly have a bedroom on a second floor or something. There are falls, you need to hear what’s going on. Having

a good AM radio so you can.

Speaker 1 Hear an AM radio so you get the emergency broadcasting system.

Speaker 2 Oh, absolutely, AM radio is critical during a natural disaster, as many people found out that the people who had access to an AM radio or people went out into their cars to find out when they’re going to be getting help. The local stations, their national AM stations are a crete key communication because guess what, when you lose

power and you have flood, there’s no internet, there’s no Wi Fi, and then all that goes out the window. That’s why having one of those little solar or crank AM radios are very very important to have. The other thing is a lot of times credit card machines and other things aren’t working in supermarkets or at a gas station.

So having a couple one hundred dollars of cash or even one hundred dollars of small bills of cash is very important. And like I said, having that medicine, the thirty day supply of your medicine, especially people who take insulin.

Things like that. If you anticipate a big storm, if there’s certain medicines that need to be cool, I tell people to get a few ice cubes and a large thermos in a ziplock baggy and then take another ziplock.

Speaker 1 Another word, people should be prepared, whether you’re whether you’re in a hurricane area or whether no matter where you are, because if you’re not prepared, you know you’re going to suffer.

Speaker 2 Yeah, a lot of people suffer and not having that access to clean water and even your pet, if you have a pet, make sure you have some spare pet food. A lot of people’s pets when hungry or if there’s going to be trees falling and injuries. You want to have a good first aid kit. You want to be

able to do pressure dressings, antibiotic ointment, to be able to clean a wound, to patch it up, even having some starry strips to be able to hold a wound until you can get medical help. If there’s going to be a fire, I always tell people in your house.

I mean if people don’t have a fire extinguisher at home, and make sure that it’s full carbon monoxide and fire alarms are very important because fire sometimes starting. Also, if you’re in a flood, zon’t unplug every electronic equipment on the first floor and move any electronics on the second floor, or even in a basement. If you have a washing

machine in the basement, unplug it before the storm wire because if there’s flooding in the basement, that’s plugged in, you can get electrocuted interesting salt water.

Speaker 1 Yes, especially those electric cars. You got to be very careful too, because what happened in water in Florida when the salt water for some reason, when the salt water hits those electric batteries, it’s such a fire that you don’t it’s unbelievable.

Speaker 2 Yeah, absolutely, the lithium ion batteries. They got a real big surprise. And one of the people that we know out of Florida apartment that’s right on the water and the water, were in the basement and they had like three electrical cars that caused the massive fire and they put out a gas that’s a cyanide gas and it’s

very very deadly and it caused severe damage to a building. So now people are rethinking it. And there was a board meeting prior to that those big storms, and they were all pushing green green electric cars. And now they totally changed their decision and they move everything has to be outside and they don’t want anything inside the building.

And also in Manhattan, we’re seeing all these batteries from if.

Speaker 1 You put an electric car in a hurricane area or near the beach, you put the electric car inside a garage in your house and the battery blows up, then you’re going to lose your whole house.

Speaker 2 Yeah. Absolutely, And a lot of the people and fire departments around the country are not equipped to put out these electrical fires because it’s very different than a gasoline or standard fire, and many people are in equipped and also the rescuers can sometimes get electrocuted and they have to be cautious. So preparing for very important.

Speaker 1 And the fact we’re almost out of time, but I want to get this in with three days going to the to the election. Well, I guess the world’s going to decide if we’re going to have more electric cars or they’re going to be forced upon us by the government or an optional. If you want an electric car,

you should be able to buy it, but it should be an option in my opinion, and not mandatory.

Speaker 2 Yeah. Absolutely, It’s important to have your freedom of choice. And there are a lot of other issues as we talked about with electric cars, and there are issues related to the safety and also a lot of issues yet to be worked out about the ms and radiation and things that we still don’t know about and we’re still

learning about. But thanks for getting the truth out on the CATS round Table and getting people prepared for the disasters will happen. And keep listening to your AM radio and WABC for more information and how to stay healthier and live longer.

Speaker 1 Well, God bless you, and let’s pray for America. God bless you, and God bless American
