Automated transcript · uncorrectedWhat is today’s Our friend Steve Kates otherwise known as Doctor Sky, and every Sunday morning he talks about what’s going on on the Moon, Mars, the Solar System, the universe and very entertaining. People love him. Steve Kates tell us what’s what’s going on this week?
So John dere morning, Good to be back on the Cat’s roundtable Laps of information. We begin with SpaceX and they did it again. We found the third launch of the massive Starship, the four hundred foot tall stack, the super heavy booster and their Starship twenty eight rocket on top.
This goes back and the history books all went well. It launched this past Thursday, nine to twenty five am Eastern daylight time from that amazing place called Bokachisa, Bocachica, excuse me, starship based in Texas. But John, what makes this rocket so incredible? Still the most powerful rocket in the world, sixteen million pounds of thrust, All of the
thirty three Raptor engines that are fueled by liquid methane and liquid oxygen work. The Starship twenty eight itself, that is the spacecraft on top. It reached orbital velocity. But of course well it’s kind of sad. The vehicle then crashed into the Indian Ocean and the booster returned to Earth.
They say it’s a success because it did actually get into orbit. And I think this is amazing. Let’s say you it’s important.
Well, was it supposed to crash?
No, John, it was actually supposed to come down in a soft landing. But that is all so well. Unfortunately the motors on there. I guess they had some internal guidance problems, but at least Elon must thinks this way that now with the third launch, their goal here was to get this spacecraft into orbit, and it’s so difficult
to do. And as we see you, launch number one and launch number two didn’t go so well. But these are all predictive failures, they understand because that people have to understand out there. These are all experimental test flights.
But more to come on that, John, as we look forward to their next successful launch, hopefully they’ll soft land not only the big booster back on Earth, but also soft land the starship spacecraft, this one Starship twenty eight.
Well, johny, you know what I’m surprised about. You know, when you have thirty three we’ve talked about it before. When you have thirty three rockets are supposed to go off, and I remember asking you one time, does it still work if only thirty two or only thirty one go off?
And now on the second stage that was the problem. Is that what happened to second stage? Who it was supposed to have a soft landing that did not right?
That’s correct. In other words, the big booster did its job. All thirty three rocket motors worked unfortunately, and I know this is to their credit. They say that they at least got this starship spacecraft, the thing that’s on top, it’s one hundred and sixty five feet tall. They actually got it into orbit, but we don’t know at this
point what really happened to it. But it went down in the Indian Ocean, not the way they had planned. So in other words, they lead got to orbit, which is a big success for the first SpaceX understood.
Tell us what else is going on in the Solar System?
Well, we go to Mars. John, This is interesting. People may not know this, and I just found this out doing some research. Mars may influence the Earth more than we thought. Every two point four million years, the Earth goes through something called an astronomical grand cycle. Fancy words, but what does it mean? In simple English? That’s where
ocean currents change, and also the plates on the Earth shift because of this gravity imbalance between the two planets. So it says that Mars, when it gets close to the Earth, and it has over the billions of years, it changes this resonance between the planets. What does that mean?
It means that the Earth gets pulled closer to the Sun, albeit slightly, And many of these researchers are saying that that might be one of the causations for climate change over the past eons, not necessarily what’s going on now.
But I find that to be totally fascinating because all the planets. The great Johannes Kepler, the German astronomer, he thought and theorized that all the planets of the Solar System have a resonance frequency, even the Earth gives off tones.
So with gravity added to that job, isn’t that amazing as a theory. Over the course of time, these things change.
Well, the Earth does change over billions of years, and to us beions of years. We can’t visualize it or feel it because it’s just the numbers are too big. We’re not capable of doing it. And well, you know, I know one thing. For the next one hundred years, we will survive.
Yes, John. And here’s the one that I think is really jaw dropping, and it’s a question in the mystery of the week. How do animals navigate? And many scientists and biologists believe and there’s a correlation here between the earth magnetic fields birds. John, they say may have life sensitive proteins in their that they have the ability to
read the magnetic feel of the earth. About this, dung beetles, these little inconspicuous little insects on the ground, they actually and this is a fact, they actually navigate at night by the position of the Milky Way in the heavens.
But even more interesting is you probably know John talking about this with great interest. Whales use this echo location click where they bounce signals off of objects like sonar, so they can navigate. But the big problem is today and I don’t know for sure, but this is for concern I think for the animals with all the electronics
that we populate with the world today, radio frequencies from cell phones and other things. Hopefully and that’s not a causation to interfere with the natural thing that these animals, you know, the precious animals need to be able to use to navigate without having these interference patterns.
Well, we talked about it a few times that day. It is changing because the runways put the IF for the airports is changing. Yes, uh, and it has changed as much as ten degrees, I believe. Uh. And uh.
It’s interesting. But there’s constant change and uh, we’ll see where in Texas. But Steve Kates, thank you so much for coming on this Sunday morning, and we’ll catch up with you again real soon.
Well, thank you, John, good to be with you and the listeners on the Cast round Table have a great something you too.
