Michael LiPetri Nominee for Congress, NY-3; Former NY Assemblyman
His Campaign for Congress and the Fight for House Majority Control
Michael LiPetri
Michael LiPetri, the Republican candidate for Congress in New York’s Nassau County district, talks with John Catsimatidis about a race he calls one of the top three targets in the nation. He says he lost by about two points two years ago, sets out his platform on taxes, police and borders, and attacks his opponent’s record on stock trading and qualified immunity.
Key takeaways
- LiPetri said the district is one of the top three target seats and will help decide House control.
- He said he came within about two percentage points of winning two years ago.
- LiPetri said his opponent made $10 million trading stocks in Congress and voted against banning the practice.
- He said he was the only downstate legislator to stand fully with police during the defund movement.
In their words

Automated transcript · uncorrectedSunday morning. Well, Congress is very important this year. There’s an election coming up in six, seven weeks. And with us this morning is Michael Lepetri. And he’s an attorney. And he’s a former assemblyman. And he is running for Congress.
And he’s running for Congress in Nassau County. And, well, Michael Lepetri, tell us what you stand for. And what are the differences between you and your opponents?
Thank you so much, John. I really appreciate you having me on this morning. So for all your viewers to understand, this district is one of the top three target seats in the nation, which includes Long Island, simply in Nassau County, Northwest Huntington, and Northeast Queens. Two years ago, we ran for Congress and came within just two percentage points of victory,
just shy of like 51-49, just about. And so this race is pivotal to decide and dictate whether the House majority stands in the hands of the Republicans or the Democrats. And for me, it’s all about restoring common sense, making sure we have an advocate that stands with the middle-class Americans, making sure we’re standing with law enforcement, standing with police,
keeping our water quality clean and safe, and keeping our borders secure, maintaining peace through strength all across the world. As a former state legislator, I was an advocate for common sense and for hardworking middle-class taxpayers and American citizens, and specifically for our veterans. My opponent, unfortunately, is someone that says one thing and does another. And we don’t
need career politicians who are two-faced to be in office any further. My opponent made $ 10 million trading stocks while in Congress, all the while he voted against condemning socialism in the DSA, voted against banning stock trading, voted against voter ID, and he voted against the largest tax cut in American history since World War II. So ultimately what
it comes down to is who’s going to put more money in your pockets, who’s going to stand for what’s right, not what’s easy, and who’s going to stand with our veterans and law enforcement rather than our criminals and illegal aliens.
The choice is clear. It’s a contrast for America, and we need people to vote for Mike Lepetri for United States Congress.
Understood. And you stand, I know Nassau County is the safest borough in, well, safest county in North America or United States. So you stand for law and order, and you want to make sure your district is the safest county in all of New York. Is that correct?
Yeah, so as a state assemblyman, I was the number one supporter of law enforcement. I was the only state legislator downstate to stand completely with law enforcement during the defund the police movement. Unfortunately, my opponent while in Congress voted to betray police by voting to repeal qualified immunity and voted against condemning the defund the police movement. So
it’s pretty disgraceful where we have a representative that says one thing and then down in D.C. just votes along party lines. And more importantly, he votes with the left side of the Democratic Party. So the last thing we need is that type of representative that deceives the voters.
So we’re looking for real, honest leadership. I don’t come from a political family. For me, I have family and friends that are in law enforcement that are working to keep our community safe. And so on a national level, I want to make sure that we have representatives that They want to keep our country safe as well.
Well, I believe that you’re 100% right. We’ve got to keep our country safe. We’ve got to keep our neighborhood safe and our city safe. And thank you so much for coming on today.

Tell me how Lepetri is spelled. L-I-P-I-E-T-R-I. I made a mistake one time. I made a mistake one time. I tried L-E instead of L-I. Thank you so much for coming on. Thank you.
