Well, we need to first of all, always remember that our mental and physical health is our number one priority in license. The rest will figure out. And since we’re in the summer season, we’re going to talk about the importance of travel safety. And before you begin a journey and you go abroad, as I always advise people, remind
them that their American Health insurance ninety nine percent of the time does not cover them abroad, and they should always get travel medical insurance and medical evacuation. I can’t tell you of the countless people who thanked me over the years had a problem abroad, had to be brought back by their air ambulance, or had to be seen
and get private care, or have surgery abroad, which can end up costing lots of money. One of my friends recently they were in Mexico and they wanted five thousand dollars for a cat scan after wife fell, and it was all covered and it’s very inexpensive. You just tell them the dates of travel. The other thing, when you
go on broad you have to really be careful with the waters you drink because a lot of the waters have bacteria and bugs. Just like we heard in the Olympics the other day in the Scent River and it was still with ecoli, which is something found in feces and that can make you extremely sick. So the swimmers
and people aren’t going to train in that water. And also when you’re drinking water and people get ice cubes abroad and sometimes that water can also be affected and contaminated, So you’re better off trying to stick to bottled water when you travel abroad. And the other thing is you want to avoid things that have been sitting out for
a while, custards and things like that, or certain cheeses can also contain certain parasites that are made on farms and haven’t been pasteurized and haven’t been properly vetted for diseases like ecoli. We reacent. We saw even our own deli meats some of them had listeria, which is a type of bacteria. So when you travel aboard, be aware
of the types of foods, avoid probably eating from street vendors when you go abroad, which is a good idea, and always have your first aid kit to include antibacterial ointment with you and things like mosquito repellent because there are a lot of disease you can get through mosquitoes, and things like you know, pepto bismo and ant acids
and sometimes for upset stomach are important to have and also bring en up medication. Don’t just bring if you’re traveling for a week. One week, you can get stuck. We just saw recently with the CrowdStrike situation, people ended up having to stay in Europe for an extra three or four days. So bring in at least double the
amount of medicine that you would normally for that week. Have copies of your prescriptions, including your eyeglass prescriptions. I’ve had so many people thank me telling me that thank you because I was able to go into any eyeglass store and I could get my prescription right away, my medicine prescriptions, and a picture of your passport because if
you have a picture of your passport, you mail it to the nearest American embassy and you can get it replaced much faster. So those are some of the things for safe traveling and UV sunscreen, wide brim hats, wrap around sunglasses to protect you from skin cancer, cataracts from the UV light because a lot of times people travel
to areas with super hot sun and they don’t realize it, and some burn damage is cumulative over a lifetime, and you want to protect your eyes to slow cataracts down, to slow macular degeneration down. So we now know so much more about how to protect ourselves in our airplane.
Don’t cross your legs, try to wiggle your legs, get up and stretch because you don’t want to get blood clots and your legs. That’s why it’s so important to avoid alcohol, excessive caffeine, which are diuretics. You want to drink more water because the more water you have, your blood froze thinner and it flows like skin milk instead
of half and half. That’s why people get more strokes and art attacks when they’re out in the heat, playing tennis, playing golf, because your blood is thicker and dehydrated, so it’s important to stay hydrated. The last thing I want to talk about is with some of the new advances in blood when we.
Were when we were in London recently, I was out of one of my medicines. I just I guess I didn’t put it in my bag and try to eat. London is a very civilized country. In a very little civilized city, I couldn’t get that medicine and I think we have. I had to bring it in from another
country or something. And you’re right. You better take double double on everything and just double check twice when you’re traveling overseas, especially YEP.
And another little trick is you put two ice cubes and a zip block baggie and a little coffee thermos, and any medicines I need refrigeration, like insulin, certain eye drops, you put them inside the thermos that has the two ice cubes with the zip block baggie and that will keep it cool for up to twenty four so it
doesn’t get damaged by the heat. And you’re better of bringing into the cabin not underneath, because the extreme temperatures in the baggage area can affect the medication and its potency. So that’s another thing. And the lastly you’re just going to mention that there’s all these new amazing tests that you can do, including the gallery test or tests of
fifty cancers with a drop of blood intel itx DNA, where you can analyze your entire DNA and find out what diseases you’re at risk for. For example, a patients had factor five lighting, which is a clotting. Three million people have that and they know when they travel they have to drink more water, take a baby assprint, consult
with your physician. But there’s so many amazing tests that you can learn about your gut microbiome. You can find out if you have any parasites and OVA and you’re intestinal track, and there are so many amazing modern tests that you can do, and the affordability is getting better and better, and always discussed with your physician about these
various tests to get your regular screening or even colonoscopy. Now they even have something called colo Guard where you can send off a sample and it spots the DNA that you would normally find in a tumor of cancer and that will give you a signal whether you should have a colonoscopy or not if you’re higher risk are
much much older. That’s one first step that many doctors prescribe now. And in addition, there are now blood tests and protein markers. The other day a study came out that there are certain proteins that you can measure and they found that they can predict some of the diseases that you might get or you might even have more
accurately earlier. So early diagnosis, early treatment. And the last thing is COVID’s on the rise. If you get it, try to get an anti viral early. Talk to your doctor. The sooner you block viral replication, the less long haul COVID you will have. And as we always talk about, keep your vitamin D levels up. Talk to your doctor
about glutaphiome. They use that a lot in long haul COVID. And stay healthy. Keep listening to WABC for more healthy tips on living longer and prospering well.
