Speaker 1 What is today’s Doctor Peter Michelos armatol our motto is live long and prosper and Doctor Mihlosa, we talked we find out what we’re eating, what we’re testing, and how do we live to be one hundred Doctor Peter Mihllos, what is your tips for this week?

Speaker 2 Well, this Sunday, we’re celebrating this month men’s health. And after getting the news that from the CDC that the twenty twenty two life expectancy dropped US seventy four point eight years in the United States, that’s something that’s really an alarm. And some of the things that happened in the last few years are COVID, a lot of stress

going on, environmental toxic toxins. We’ve learned about micro and nanoplastics and our food and air, which is not helping the situation. And also with COVID, there was a lot of human isolation and people sitting in front of the electronic herowin the cell phones and computers and social media, they’ve altered human interactions and loss of human affection, which

we now know in the blue zones, people have a lot of interaction with other people and that helps you live longer. And we now know that what we eat. What we eat is very important because we say you are what you eat. But we now know twenty percent of our destiny is genetic and eighty percent is how

we treat and how we feed those genes. So to improve health, we’ve learned that we need to eat less often, and we need to eat foods in their natural forms, with more fruits and vegetables and more wild caught fish and grass fed beats and meats. And we really need to avoid sugar because when sugars and hyperclose corns irve

were introduced in the diets around the world, we started seeing the rates of cancer, inflammation and other diseases rising. And when you avoid sugar fans the salt, basically you reduce your cancer risk your inflammation risk. And we’ve also learned that into manfesting is a great anti aging tool for men to give their gut or rest and to

lose some weight and in a healthy way to lose weight without some of these injections and shots and other things. And we know that when we’re not eating, it turns on those urtuin longevity genes, because when we’re hungry, those genes say, oh, no prepare for hard times there’s no food and they start the body cleanup of old the

nest and dyeing cells. Other things for men’s health Month for mind men top preventable cause of death is stop smoking. That’s cigarettes, cigars and stop vaping. And if you can try to exercise two and a half hours a week and it doesn’t have to be a lot. Two and a half hours out of a you know, several hundred

hour work week is a good thing to do if you can get out of breath, even if it’s just a three minute sprint on your treadmill, just something to get moving. And also we’ve learned about how sleep for brain repair at least seven hours best. The number one killers in cancer for men are prostate, lung, colorectyal, skin,

and bladder is the lass one. But that’s why PSA tests and the annual physical is so important. Things that you can screen for and actually cure certain forms of hepatitis. You can screen for your cholesterol, get an annual EKG, and you can spot your schemi or lack of blood flow of the heart, and also balancing out your hormones,

making sure that your hormones are that has to allow with our energy, our skin, and also men get breast cancer as well, So screening self pressed exams if you feel a mass on your chest that doesn’t feel normal, and you can ask your doctor to do an exam, and also self exams on the testicle area because testicular

cancer is a problem and men. Also, if you see a spot on your skin that’s irregular, very dark scallop borders on it, you worry about melanoma changing color of a mole because men are more likely than women to die of melanoma. And that’s why going to your dermatologists, especially if you have light skin light eye at least

twice a year for everyone else at least once a year to have a dermatological screen. And these are very important things. The colon cancer screening we’ve talked about, if you’re afraid to get a kolonoscar, you they have cola guard now which you take us send off a stool sample and it finds abnormal day in the stool and

then you can go get a kolonoskar if it comes back positive for colon cancer. And we’ve talked many times about the gallery test. With one blood tube, you can screen for fifty cancers before they even start. And basically you just need to follow some of these basic rules.

It’s not that complicated. But you know, men are outdoors working a lot. So are women, but historically men do a lot of construction jobs and outdoor and they need to wear hats with a brim, consider SPF shirts when you go to the beach, use sunscreen, and just take care of our bodies because we know eighty percent of

our destiny is what we eat, how we treat our bodies. Keep listening to w ABC for more health tips here on Men’s Health Months. And you know, basically positive attitude is very very important and you have to lot.

Speaker 1 Yeah, you have to. I’ve been told laughing or crying helps the mental state of mind.

Speaker 2 No, absolutely expressing your emotions instead of bottling up.

Speaker 3 Yeah, if you see if you see a movie that you cry at, or if you see a movie that you laugh at for some reason, it has a positive effect on your system.

Speaker 2 Well, it reminds us that we’re humans, and it gets our juices flowing, It gets our heart flowing, our blood vessels violated. It’s almost like exercise. Believe it or not. Laughing as a form of exercise, you have to actually move a lot of muscles. Even crying or you know, emotional crying, that doesn’t raise your cortisol though, like stress

crying is different because you your cortisol and stress home go up. You can cry in a good movie, but it doesn’t necessarily raise those stress hormones because when those hormones go up, like adrenaline, it causes the blood heart vessels to constrict. And that’s why people get heart attacks when they’re stressed out, because you’re adrenaline goes higher. So

now the other that’s important.

Speaker 3 The other question.

Speaker 1 You know, I’ve been on intimnted festing almost as long as you have, and the question that comes up is when I’m going to take my vitamins. I usually you like to take them along with your meal during the eating period. What happens if you take your vitamins in an abnormal time? Does that interrupt your intimentted fasting?

Speaker 2 No, because the vitamins don’t really have calories. They’re usually the minerals and supplements they don’t generate. The fast is about not bumping up your blood sugar and not letting your insulin kick in. When you’re fasting, your body thinks, oh my goodness, there’s no sugar coming in, there’s no calories.

I need energy. And it works on all these clean up things. When you just swallow one packet of sugar in the morning, you ruin the fast because your insulin shoots out and the body thinks, oh, relax, everything’s fine.

We got plenty of food, plenty of sugar, So taking your vitamins is not a problem. I take my vitamins in the morning. I just drink a lot of water because that does not raise your blood sugar and it does not cause a surge of insulin.

Speaker 1 Understood well, Doctor Peter Mihllos, thank you very much for coming you on every Sunday morning and live long and prosper.
