Automated transcript · uncorrectedSunday morning with us with us as Congressman Gus Bill racis from the Great State of Florida, the Tampa area, and uh, a lot of things happened in uh in Florida last week. Uh uh congressman, and it looks like Trump won Florida by over a million votes. Give us your evaluation of what happened.
Well, Uh, you know, Florida is Trump country, and and people are concerned, you know economically, Uh, They’re worried about where where they’re going to support their families, how they’re going to support their families. I think that people are concerned about all these wars going around, you know, in the Middle East, but also Ukraine. Uh. And they need
a businessman like you. John Trump has a lot your qualities uh in fixing the economy uh and making a common sense decisions for the American people. And I believe that’s why they voted for him. And I think that you know, we have a lot of ethnic uh Hispanics, uh, ethnic Cubans, but also Venezuelans uh in the in the
state of Florida, quite a few others. And you know what, they think they came home this time because they fear that some of the countries that they grew up in. Uh, it’s it’s becoming more like that those countries as opposed to the Great State of Florida, but also the United States of America. They’re worried about socialism, they.
Were worried that they were worried what they saw happening in their country was happening here with we were being invaded. Is something like that, right.
Yeah, absolutely. And you know, I went to the southern border recently, and and folks they’re not they’re not safe. They don’t feel safe there. Uh. And these are a lot of Hispanic Americans. Uh And and they they love their home country, but they know that the only way they’re going to have an opportunity to succeed is here
in America. But they want to feel safe, and they feel threatened by people coming over to through the southern border. Uh. And they worry about their safety. They worry about, you know, their their economic position where they can support their families. Uh.
So people said enough is enough under this current administration, under the Biden Harris administration, they want to go back to Trump. They feel like they were better off, they were much better off when Trump was in pacted so they have hope, now hope for America. So again, you know, I was very pleased with the out come.
John understood. Now you’re also do AM radio. You’re part of the committee, the subcommittee that was defending AM radio. Give us your report on that.
Okay, Well, AM radio is vital, especially you know, with these hurricanes. People communicate and they get their information through AM radio. And I passed the bill along with Polone. I was the main sponsor, and Polone was a Democrat sponsor.
Frank is a good guy, and in this case we agree that AM radio is vital. And the car manufacturers are trying to take AM radio out of the new automobiles. Uh, they say that it’s not you can’t it interferes with the with the evs. Well, I don’t think they like, yeah, yeah, I don’t think that’s the case at all, because I’ve heard,
you know, from people that have evs, the electric vehicles, and they say there’s not a problem at all with AM radio. But in any case, we passed it out of the subcommittee to make sure require you know, normally I’m not for a mandate, but in this case I am because people they actually get their information from AM radio, okay,
particularly during an emergency. So in any case, we pass the bill out of the subcommittee and out of the full committee, and now we’re waiting for action on the floor of the House of Representatives. I’m trying to get it into the Emergency Supplemental Bill that will be passed more than likely next week out of the House. So
I’m working on that. I’ve talked to Steve Scalise about it, the Majority leader. He seems inclined. John, and I know you have a lot of influence with the leadership on both sides, so you know, together, I think we can get this done.
Well. That will do you wonderful because I was with the FEMA people the other day and FEMA feels that it’s the number one way to communicate with the American citizens in case of emergency.
Absolutely, you know I represent, even though you know I do. I have the Tampa area, in the Tampa Bay Area in general, but also the Nature Coast, and there are a lot of rural areas and these people, not just the Tampa area, not just the Nature Coast, but all over the South were hit by these hurricanes, particularly in
North Carolina. They had no other way to communicate and get information and you know they’re homes again. It was a kind of trophic hurricane, particularly the last one, UH and UH. And the only way folks could communicate to get help what’s through AM radio. So yeah, as far as I’m concerned, it’s a no brainer. But you know,
no brainers don’t get done unless you push hard in Washington, DC. As you know, John.
Absolutely Gush beller Racis Congressman Gush beller Ratis, thank you so much for for whatever you do. You’re doing the great things for Florida and you and you and you’re doing great things for AM radio. And we’ll catch up again real soon.
I look forward to it. Thank you, John, God bless you. Love bless
