Automated transcript · uncorrectedSunday Morning with US is Governor David Pattison, one common sense guy, one good friend and a hero save Curtis Lee was Son’s life and Governor. What’s on the agenda today?
Well, John, A few days ago we attended the Alfred E. Smith Dinner, which is quite an incredible event and it is the apex and really the igniter of all types of charities. And it was a great event. I think everybody had a good time. And the former President Donald Trump was there and he was funny. He was cutting
at times, but he was getting his point across. The Vice President of Joe Kenny Kamala Harris was not there, and he’s not the first to do something like that. The time that they say it’s the first time that presidential candidate hasn’t shown up to the dinner in forty years, but I remember in nineteen seventy two, Richard Nixon did
not attend the dinner and he got criticized for it, but he won forty nine states plus.
Yeah, but the Democrat that didn’t attend the last forty nine.
States, right, I think at some point McGovern may not have attended, but I think people got that wrong. It was really Nixon that didn’t attend, but he won forty nine states in spite of it, so he didn’t have to worry about the dinner. But Kamai Harris does have to worry about the dinner because this is a very
close race, and in these types of situations, you don’t want to give your opponent the opportunity to pile up points in a room such as that while you’re in Minnesota or wherever you are, And it to me just made the task of winning the presidency more difficult than if she had just gone. She did send a video statement.
They played it. It was fine, but it doesn’t replace the fact that she wasn’t.
There understood, and that was this Me and you were both there. We were both in the dance. We were about twenty feet apart. It was a beautiful dinner, and I know that Cardinal was very very upset that I did not understand the social media that Tamala put up in the church. Would you consider that she is not
friendly to judeale Christian values.
Well, I don’t think that she’s not friendly to them, but I think that there are, as in with any other group, there are certain standards that you would think the person would uphold and this is a big dinner to them, and it honors the first Catholic to ever run for president this country, who got a great backlash
from that. And so in many respects, the charity is named after a struggle in this country for equal opportunity by Catholics and eventually by Jewish people and others. And you know, sometimes you have to understand the value of that and listen, if there had been a death in the family or some you know, personal issue that intervened,
but she said she wasn’t coming two months ago, and you know, I just didn’t think it helped.
If I was the cardinal. If I was the cardinal, i’d be very upset.
To Yeah, you know, the cardinal was not. The cardinals did not shy away from indicating how he felt about that, and then you have to respect him. And you know, look, if everything works out and she gets elected president, you know this will go away. But if she doesn’t, she’s gonna have to think about this as one of the
moments where her decision really was made far too prematurely and her actions to try to make up for it. It’s not the same as when you come to an event I mean I myself remember times I had a legitimate excuse and didn’t go to an event and I saw some of the people here the next day and
who yelled at me. And that’s part of what goes on in this career, John, is half of the career is showing up.
I was talking. I was with some church members from the Greek community this morning, and I gave a speech, and one of the people was his family from Lebanon, and I pointed out that invasion of Lebanon by people the Hesballah eventually took the Christians out, and that we you know, we’ve got invasions going on all over the place.
And I don’t know. I am pro immigration, I’m an embathing, but why are we being invaded? Why is the Democratic Party allowing that?
Well? I think right now, John, this is a situation where we’re whoever becomes president, we’re going to just have to reassess our mindset even before we reassess our actions. So, for instance, we have a situation where Israel has pretty much destroyed Hamas and has Belah, they have them on their knees now, and yet our administration is sort of
encouraging Israel to stop there. I mean, when you had this kind of conflict, and when you’re attacked in the way they were attacked on October seventh of here, I don’t think anyone should be giving them any advice. It’s their country, they’re trying to protect it, and if they have to, you know, go even further than they have
now than God bless them because they are saving their country. That’s what we did in World War Two. So that’s not what we should be limiting someone else from doing just because we’re a bigger country than they are.
I agree with you on the side, on the side of side to whatever you want to call it. Uh, we got Israel going in hitting Lebanon, but will they be able to set Lebanon free from the their invaders?
Well, that’s why I think they want to keep going, because they want to make sure that not only are they protected, but some of the places they had to go in to drive the enemy out will be protected as well.
Absolutely. I mean we hope so, and I hope whether it’s President Biden or Vice President Harris, that they defend Israel because they’re trying to keep the free world free.
Well, that would certainly be the objective that’s what we said to them when they were attacked a little over a year ago. And I think we have to continue in that vein and at a certain point, these terrorist groups there are no examples of courage. They’re no profiles in real uh you know, civil war, like the civil
wars we had in this country or other countries. They have a principle that guides them to hate other people and kill them and to extinguish them from the planet.
Sometimes. So sometimes whether it’s well, I’m going to bring you back to New York, governor, sometimes cruel and uncivilized people should not be welcome in society of the free world civilization, whether it’s in New York City with the invaders from all over the world, or in Lebanon.
I agree, And look when we’ve had the problem. Even in our own country, we had two hundred and forty four years of slavery and then another ninety two years of segregation. Our government eventually overcame that, and now you can go almost anywhere in this country and be any race or religion or color and be welcomed.
God bless you, God bless America. And let’s pray for the right results, for common sense people on November fifth. Thank you so much forving.
Thank you John
