Chang and his Twitter is at Gordon g Chang and he’s our expert. He’s a scholar, he’s a senior scholar, senior at Gatestone Institute Gatestone and he’s a good friend. Well, and he has a new book that we’ll talk about after Well, Gordon Chang give us an update. What’s going on in the Far East.
China. This has been lashing out against everyone in the last few days. There were the big exercises around Taiwana on Monday and Tuesday called Joint Sword twenty twenty four B. This saw the biggest number of Chinese aircraft circling around the island. And then we have China going after South Korea last week, as well as more rammings of Philippine ships.
So Beijing has been taking on everybody at the same time. That is strategic incoherent. But the point is something’s very wrong in Beijing right now for them to do this. And by the way, we’re starting to see reports that China is calling up reservists, which is an indication that they plan to go to war pretty soon.
That is frightening news.
Because on Taiwan, i understand they had to behind the scene discussions that the United States Democratic Party knows that something’s gonna happen in Taiwan, and that’s why they made the big move on giving federal money to open up chip centers in Ohio.
I know for sure.
Yeah, right now, the government in Taiwan is really nervous. It’s not just because we’re in the US is in an election campaign. They expect China to impose a quarantine on the island within six months. A quarantine is technically not an active war, but that Chinese could move to a blockade, and this exercise last Monday and Tuesday really
practice for a quarantine or blockade. Blockade’s an active war. But in these circumstances, John, where tensions are so high, even just imposing a quarantine probably would lead to a war fairly quickly. And the Biden administration is not prepared.
They don’t want anything to happen in the run up to the election, which means the Chinese know that, which means the Chinese are being more provocative, which means anything could go wrong in East Asia right now.
They’re trying to get away with as much as they can. Well, I guess president Biden is still president.
Yeah, absolutely, because they think that Biden has staked his claim to foreign politic success on achieving cooperation with China. So they think that Biden will go to any lengths to avoid a conflict, which means they’ve got a lot of room from maneuver, which means they’re creating all of these belligerent all these provocations around their eastern and their
southern periphery.
Understood, And do you feel that they’re going to have the same control of if Harris became president.
Yeah. I think that they believe that if Harris became president, she would do what every president before her is done, and that is to give China a grace period because every president thinks that he or she could do a better job than the predecessor, which means China gets a lot of time in which to continue its assault on
the United States without pushback. And by the way, you know, Harris does not really care that much about foreign policy. We know that from this Seymour Hirsch reporting that she actually ordered the Director of National Intelligence not to send her the President’s Daily Brief, which is the summary of the intelligence operations around the world. In the preceding twenty
four hours, and that means that she just doesn’t really she has no interest in what’s going on abroad, and the Chinese will take advantage of that.
Understood, and look, the Chinese are smart people. They want to take advantage. In my opinion, they don’t really want all out war with the United States of America. But when you have people that are considered softies like President Biden or President Harris, the would be at that point, then they’re going to take more admittage.
I agree with that. You know, China would want to win without fighting, which is the famous phrase. They want their opponents to submit, and what they’re doing is they think they can get that, and so they’re pushing everybody.
We’ll see what we’ve seen in the past, and that is aggressor’s pushed too far and then the victims have to push back and start defending them, and that’s how wars start. The Chinese are actually fighting proxy wars on three continents right now, in Europe and Ukraine, across North Africa and in the western part of Asia, Israel and
the Middle East. So really what we got is a regime in Beijing that thinks it can get away with a lot because so far it has because Biden has not effectively opposed them, and they think that between now and January twentieth of next year, they can really make a lot of progress. And so they could push the
world too far.
Their accommodation with Iran and their accommodation with Russia. And I’m gonna call it accommodation because I firmly believe that Putin originally really wanted to be a member of the European community. What does China really think of Putin?
They believe that Putin does what they would like to do, which is to disrupt the international system. Seady and Pain believes that chaos is in China’s best interest. This goes back to Mao because Mao expoused the theory of chaos, that chaos around the world would lead to eventual worldwide Chinese rule. And Si Jinping has been doing the same thing.
He’s been promoting chaos, and Chinese foreign policy analysts have written a lot about chaos in the last couple of years, which is a real indication that Mao foreign policy is back in the driver’s seat.
Understood. How did it feel about Iran?
Well, China uses Iran to destabilize the Middle East. So in Chinese eyes, Iran is a proxy and Iran could not afford to It could not have afforded to attack Israel on October seventh were it not for elevated Chinese commodity purchases of Iranian crude. Last year, John, China took over ninety percent of Iran’s exports of crude oil. But
it’s more just that it’s diplomatic support, propaganda support, and weapons. All of Iran’s proxies, Hamas, Hezbula and the Huthi militia have large quantities of Chinese weapons, and as well Iran’s own weapons. When you look inside, they’ve got Chinese components, especially semiconductors. So China has been disrupting the Middle East through Iran. Iran’s been doing that through its terrorist proxies.
But ultimately you go back to Beijing, the source of the trouble in the Middle East.
Understood, We talked about Iran, we talked about Russia, anybody else. By the way, the aggression against the Philippines is that still going on?
It is, John. There is the ramming of the Philippine ship about three or four days ago, and before that of course, was a series of very dangerous incidents. China been seizing Philippine vessels, It’s been ramming them injuring Philippine sailors.
At the end of last month, a Chinese military vessel actually shot a high intensity labor a laser at a Philippine civilian aircraft, endangering the crew. And that’s an escalation of tactics in the South China Sea. So I think that Sijmpeing views the Philippines as a weak target and may be able to obtain some goals such as seizing
Second Tamas Shoal, maybe Scarborough Shaw, Whitson Reef, Sabina Shaw. China has so many targets in the South China Sea trying to take Philippine territory.
Understood, anything else you want to tell the American people Sunday morning, where it’s fifteen days in the election.
Yeah, the Chinese clearly have their eye on the election and they don’t want the return of Donald Trump to the Oval office. And it’s because they Trump as unpredictable. They can deal with a hostile American president, they’ve done that before, but the one thing they can’t deal with is someone that they feel they cannot control, and especially
since April twenty seventeen when Sie Jimping went Tomorrow Lago Trump over dinner, that most beautiful piece of chocolate cake. Trump stands up and says that he’s just launched missiles at Syria. Syria being a Chinese friend. See, Jimping was flummoxed.
He was silent, He didn’t know what to say, and for four years he was relatively well behaved. He starts acting up when Biden comes in because he thinks he can control Biden.
So so she had oh crap moment.
He certainly did, and probably he was thinking a word stronger than the one you used.
Yes, the four letter words starts with a ness. Uh. One more thing, if I really don’t think China wats a world war, so if we want to be in control of things, you’re saying that Trump is better than Harris.
One more thing, darc money. Are they scared to send doc money into the campaign because his investigation going on now with Congress on dark foreign money trying to influence campaigns.
Yeah, and that probably is Chinese because in twenty twenty China put a lot of money into the campaign. Coffers of Joe Biden. They did that through Act Blue, which is the Democratic Party website. They did a lot of small donations which wouldn’t be noticed, but they did come from abroad, which of course is illegal under our campaign
finance laws to accept that money. I’m sure we’re going to see the same thing this time is more and more evidence comes out, because right now, the Chinese want to buy the American political system. And we know from reporting already that they have been actively involved in down ballot contests, including the June Democratic Party primary for the
Assembly seats. So that shows you how far down the political chain they go, and they want to influence people at all levels of the American system.
Goludon Chang, Sunday morning. Again, what do we do?
I mean, if the United States, if the GOP loses Congress, all these investigations, you know what happens. They they go away. So I’m telling to our millions of listeners, all those investigations go away. Gludon g Chang, thank you so much. Oh, your book, your new book. Tell us about your new book.
Yeah. I wrote the book because I think that American policy analysts and political elites leaders don’t understand China’s fundamental challenge and assault on the American political system and on our country as a whole. And until we understand that, we will not be able to defend ourselves. So that’s why I wrote a plan read China’s project to destroy America.
Because the Chinese are in fact trying to do that. We don’t want to acknowledge that, and so therefore we’re at risk. Even though we’re a far stronger society than China, we’re at risk because we’re not protecting ourselves as we should.
Guddon g Chang, thank you and great interview, and thank you for telling the American people what’s really going on in the world.
Well, thank you so much, John, I really appreciate it.
