Automated transcript · uncorrectedSunday morning. Well, every Sunday morning we talked to Governor David Patterson, a common sense Democrat, a governor, tell us what you feel this Sunday morning today. Well, let me just say, John, that I woke up on Memorial Day and my grandfather had passed away on Memorial Day, I believe when I.
Was twelve years old. So I was kind of thinking about that. Law was taking a shower and I thought, yeah, I’d like to call a veteran up and thank them for their service. And I decided that that call would go to the former Congressman Charlie Wrangell. By the time I got out of the shower, I was getting a
message from my PR person that he had passed away at the age of ninety four. And he was really a legendary figure, not just in Harlem, but just about every place else. And he had a number of people on the other side of the out that really understood him and looked out for uh for him while he
was in Congress, which by the way, was for forty six years. So that’s somebody who when they get a job, they can keep it.
Clearly, Congressman Charlie Rangel was one fine individual. He was a good friend of mine and I missed him in I will miss him intense intensely. I mean, we went to Cuba together, we did a lot of things together, and well, he shill definitely be missed.
And if you don’t mind, John, want to mention that another great congressman from the area, Peter King, lost his brother the night before Memorial Days. It was a rough week for some year named Moron and and Joe Congressman Joe Crowley, the former congressman, lost his twenty five year old son graduate from Annapolis.
And he died of kids.
That was just awful, just awful. That’s awful. But meanwhile, it’s very interesting because I’m beginning to think that the courts believe that they should supervise the president, and that the president believes he should supervise everybody. It’s just like a week of incidents that, you know, we’re just speculatative as to how they got the way they were.
The first one I want to talk about is that if the president wants to use terroriffs to try to change the economy, I don’t even see that as an issue that would go to a court. It’s not like you’re taking something away from someone. It’s just that you’re changing a policy to try to get the economy in
a place where it is thriving, and I just don’t understand why they’re doing it. Now. On the other hand, I kind of don’t understand the President himself, because he’s kind of turning this pardon process into something that I don’t think is what was actually intended. It’s not intended for people who committed serious crimes and were in jail,
meaning that couple that had the TV show and the president pardons the two of them. The daughter came to the Republican convention, spoke at the convention, and then made a large contribution to the party, and then her parents get pardoned when the president because is installed in office.
To me, that just reeks of all kinds of any inappropriate conduct. And one of the things that you know now the President says he’s reviewing whether or not four people who were convicted of planning to kill the Michigan governor, Gretchen Whitmore, and he said he didn’t think that was a big case. He’s thinking about pardoning them. Pardons are
not and believe me, I served as governor. I couldn’t pardon people all over the country, but I understood that when you give a pardon there has to be an intervening cause as to why you’re doing it. So for instance, well.
Especially what was eight thousand pubs for President Biden that nobody knows that if he really approved them, or if it was done by your auto.
Pet Yeah, and that’s just as bad as what we’re talking about here. So I’m just kind of hoping as we move on that the people in government, the Congress, and the courts, that everybody take a deep breath and starts thinking about what their role is, and particularly for judges, your role is about what youth your interpretation of the law. Now,
judges can disagree on what your interpretation of the law is. But this whole idea that you know, every time a present something that federal judge doesn’t like, they’re going to try to thwart them is not going to work, and it’s just going to add to the antagonism that is continuing right now between the parties.
And we both agree on that, but it’s got to stop. I mean, we have to find out Governor Patterson is who at the White House was calling the shots during that period of time. Where President Biden was incapacitated.
In my opinion, you know, it’s just amazing to me that so many people could get involved and actually that nobody really knew about this at the time where the president apparently was incapacitated and the government was running itself.
In other words, everybody that had a position there acted running the agencies that they were nominated to supervise. And yet you don’t have any leadership because the leader is unable to perform it. And I think that this goes beyond party. I think that that’s an offense to the whole idea of government and what a president’s role is.
I’m just amazed that so many people would let themselves get involved in it. Couldn’t somebody jump up and say, look, if we don’t sit down and tell the president it’s time for him to step down and let the vice president take over. I’m going to go public about the situation. Now.
When people do that, people feel that they’re trying to get attention. But in this case, if somebody had done it, it would have been brave and it would have been right.
Yes, I understand that. Governor Patterson, thank you for coming on this Sunday morning. And let’s catch you up again. Real suit take care.
