Speaker 1 Sunday Morning. The American dream well with us this morning is Susan Swan and she’s a city council member in Brooklyn. But she was an immigrant. She was born in Baikpu, China. She came here, got educated and she is very very successful and she’s running for re election in Brooklyn. And Susan Swan, tell us about yourself.

Speaker 2 Thank you for reminding me. I’m council member Susan John represent southern Brooklyn. I cover Sunday Park, Borough Park, Baker Heights, both of hers grazing and the very little bad Seek. I came here when I was twenty years old, doesn’t really speak any English, and I went to school here in New York upstate, and then got a job in

New York City. Then I got involved with community, then let on I ran full office. It’s always I represented a district has a large immigrants and a fifty four percent Asian American living in my district. A lot of people immigrants and also some first generation Americans. So I mean very excited to represent my district. Make sure those

underrepresented people get that what’s hurt in the city government, and.

Speaker 1 You are what you told yourself is a common sense democrat and you want law and order in our city.

Speaker 2 Yes, yes, I’m a conservative Democrat. And also we call us a common sense democrat. We need really need more police officers on the street and make sure with the hard on crime, and make sure we have the education base, still own marriage. And also we want to see our street clinged, our seniors get take care of and also

our people have good housing to live on.

Speaker 1 Now, you know, we talked about education, and we talked about there’s a lot of talk among the Jewish community, which your party’s constituents, on anti Semitism in Harvard. But at one point they were against Asians. Two weren’t they Yes.

Speaker 2 Yes, exactly the people. So the people against the Asian is the same group of people against the Jewish. I said, hate, if it’s a hate against one, is a hate against all of us. Because these same hatred should not be tolerating our city. I always stand up for anti Semitism, and this year I think the community should have stayed

with each other then supporting each other. This year, this is second year I did Asian and the Jewish heritage must celebrate together. I want to show the community we have the unity there and also we will fight together against all hype of hate.

Speaker 1 I agree with you, I fight all hate. They should not hate the Jews, they should not hate Asians, they should not hate anybody in the I mean they used to hate Greeks. I’m Greek of origin, and they used to hate Greeks in the South, and it’s just they.

Speaker 2 Have an issue with Italian when they just came here.

Speaker 1 Also, absolutely well, Susan Twaing, what else would you like to tell all the listeners in Brooklyn today.

Speaker 2 I love my community and I always stand up for all, no matter the issue. To get more police officers on the streets, and I also get good schools for our children, and I also have a cling and the safe street for everyone living in the community. We want the quality of life issue be addressed, no matter right now. And

also for next mayor, I want to make sure we have a good mayor to represent our community. And I want to alert everyone make sure you go to your poll site on June twenty four, vote for the mayor you think the best of our city.

Speaker 1 Susan Swan, thank you for coming on a Sunday morning, and I vote for New York City to be safe and what they’re doing to New York right now. If we get the wrong mayor, we’re gonna lose New York.

Speaker 2 Exactly.
