Speaker 1 Sunday morning. Well, what is the status of the mayor’s race. It’s coming to the Democratic primary is the next couple of weeks. And today with us, today’s Hank Shankov, one of the smartest strategists in politics in New York City that I know. Uh, and he’s internationally recognized too.

Speaker 2 Uh.

Speaker 1 Well, Henk me and you know each other for for a zillion years. Give us your pulse and give us your feeling of what’s going on with the New York City mayor’s race.

Speaker 2 Well, first, John, good morning to you and to everybody who’s listening. You know, it’s kind of interesting and what happens in New York tens to set the national trends. You know, we police departments around the country follow what the NYPD does. Artists here, culture is here, finances here.

We set the tenor and we’re about to set the tenor for something else. This fellow, Zohan Mundami, anti israel Is people support, have been among those who were part of the anti police movement around the country. Certainly a socialist at least by Mouth, although who grew up with a silver spoon, going to Bowden College, and they are

living in a publicly subsidized department, frankly, but he can win that primary today. He can be the next mayor of the City of New York if this continues. Right now, he’s hovering about forty percent of the polls right buying Andrew Cuomo. He’s consolidated the left Mundamie has and even more frightening, he’s doing extremely well among educated, young professionals

who have money, which tells you that those folks who don’t turn out, if they do turn out, could write a new page in history.

Speaker 1 Well, I find it hard to believe, but you everything set. You have a Democratic poll, and you have Andrew Cuomo who’s the leader, and this guy mc danny is coming in number two in the Democratic poll, and then you have a few other people with the whatever it is.

And then you have Eric Adams as an independent, and then you have Curtis Lee as a Republican. So the the Democratic primary is only like ten days away or what is it? And you have early.

Speaker 2 Voted twenty fourth of June. Twenty fourth of June. Yes, it is amazing, but it tells you something about the ship in the city. It is people are leaving, who are older people are staying or younger. They, for some reason, in the most pamper generation in the history of the world, who have beaten more regularly, have been housed more regularly,

have higher educations than anybody we know historically, have decided that they have a reason to revolt. And I’m trying to forgure out what it is. As somebody you know who dropped out high school, went back and all the other things that happened in my life, I just don’t understand what they’re what they’re engaged with him about. Here’s

a guy who’s had not had a tough days life was leading a revolt to people who have haven’t had a tough day their entire lives. About the protesting about Israel, certainly there’s.

Speaker 3 An anti Semitic tinge here, because Mundomi has been pretty public about this as one of the progenitors of the students for justin Palestine, which has been pretty public about calling for wiping.

Speaker 2 The Jews off the map in the Middle East, as as his father, by the way, So you have this anti Semitic tinge, this anti capitalist tinge, this anti landlord tinge, this anti you name it, with a bunch of popular sloganeering, which is really about nothing more than gaining power. But people don’t see that he is dangerous, Hank.

Speaker 1 You know being you were Democrats a thousand years ago, and you know I was a Bill Clinton Democrat. And when the Democratic Party under Joe Biden started bringing in all these migrants into New York City and some of them are voting, God knows how many of them are voting even though they’re not supposed to out Are we

creating our own banana peel?

Speaker 2 Well, here’s the problem, John, and you’re touching on something that has all kinds of ramifications. New York the country is no longer European derivative. We more than fifty percent the people live in the United States today do not trace their roots to Europe, which changes the way we think about democracy and culture. And we’re going through a

demographic ship. It’s going to work itself out in our politics. So that’s always what happens. So, you know, should we be surprised that there’s a mandami who’s doing as well as he is. No.

Speaker 2 The other thing we should pay attention to is that the political people doing political campaigns and ads have become dummies. What do I mean by that? If you look at Mandami’s work. It is what you have in the TV ads or texts on screen with graphics that look like TikTok.

His mail looks very much the same. Why because whoever’s doing that work understands how people get information and what we see on television today in mailboxes political campaigns is from another era. But Mandamie is from the present moment.

And he’s handsome, good to the camera, articulate and never tells you what he’s really about, which is perfect for.

Speaker 1 Him, understood understood well. I as a New Yorker for seventy five years, I am worried. Because you say.

Speaker 2 Worried, John, You should be worried, John, you should be afraid. You should tell your friends they better turn out to vote. If they think this is a joke, they’re in for surprise. Six months ago, I said Mondamie was the guy to watch. Now, I’m not saying he’s going to win the election. What I’m saying is he’s about the top forty percent of

the total lecturer there, and there’s a ballback whether he loses or not. What he is about and what he represents, which is effectively the end of New York as we know it. We’ll be on the ballot now and we’ll be on the ballot in the future, and people had better wake up and get to vote.

Speaker 1 I thank Shankroff from your out there. We’re going to work together every week, every day, whatever we have to do to make sure New York survives, the New York that we all love and care for. Thank you so much for coming on this Sunday morning, and we’ll talk again soon.

Speaker 2 John. All the best to you and yours.
