Speaker 1 Sunday Morning with us is European correspondent, former banker worked forwards big banks in the London Parish in the New York Mario Oconomo, give us the pulse of what’s going on in Europe this Sunday morning, and especially what happened in Germany this week with the election.

Speaker 2 Yes, so good morning, a mister katzma Tievi’s. In Germany, we saw the CDU, the Christian Democratic Party won the elections with a very rather close second by the AfD, which is the Alternative for Germany party, which mister Musk supported openly. Mister Merricks is going to be the next Chancellor of Germany. Is a very strong supporter of a

strong you. He’s a strong believer against Russia. He’s openly spoken out against President Trump and what his policies are with respect to Europe and Ukraine. And his goal is to make Europe stronger, to bring Europe closer together and to establish what he calls a European Army. Shortly after he won, he actually did speak with President Macron of

France and he asked President Macron if President Macron would actually extend the nuclear umbrella that France has over France to include and cover Germany, to which President Macrone said, of course he would if there was any threat posed by the Russians. President Macron said he would fly jets over to Germany which would be loaded with nuclear missiles

in order to deter any potential aggression by the Russians on Germany.

Speaker 1 And then then the bricks, the Brits homed in on that and try to create their own alliance.

Speaker 2 Yeah, so the English, you’re correct, mister Starmer, along with the French and the Germans, they want to build a European army which we’ll be able to not rely on the United States or NATO for that matter. They do say that they would need the US backing and the background, but their goal is to establish an army in order

to be able to forcefully deter any Russian aggression. My personal opinion on the matter is any army that they would think or seek to create will take too long to establish the amount of money required to actually go into towards allocation of building weapons, systems and arms. It’s far too great giving Europe’s current economic situation. And frankly,

there really is no reason for this because once again I’m going to repeat, Russia poses absolutely no threat to the European Union. In fact, if the European Union was very clever, what it would try to do is establish and cut a deal with Russia before President Trump does in order for the European Union to benefit in the

ways that President Trump seeking to have the United States benefit in a relationship and a close.

Speaker 1 When they tried to establish a new alliance to replace NATO, I mean that was my first thought.

Speaker 2 Yeah, So the answer to that question is yes, yes they are. I had told you, if you recall two years ago, that well three years ago, when this war broke out, that the biggest loser out of this war, the Russian invasion into Ukraine, would be the European Union.

And I subsequently told you that NATO was a paper tiger and it really wasn’t worth the paper the agreement’s been written on. And now the Europeans are thinking and saying that President Trump is openly hostile towards them, and therefore they believe that they need to have an alternative to NATO. And if we actually go and listen to

what the Danish Prime minister said, she said something rather bizarre, and I’ll sort of paraphrase it. She said that peace with Russia is far more dangerous than war with Russia, which is kind of a twisted logic and a very bizarre thing to say if you’re anybody who actually leads any country and realizes that war is catastrophic on any country,

I think.

Speaker 1 That comment, the comment she made, is very dumb.

Speaker 2 Well so do many Europeans, by the way, so you’re not the only one to think that. We see the importance, however, that the US is placing on the transatlantic relationship with the European Union, as evidenced by the fact that the European Commissioner for Foreign Affairs recently showed up a couple of days ago in Washington to meet with mister the

Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, and he actually canceled on her while she was on the ground waiting to see him. So clearly the.

Speaker 1 Relationship he wasn’t and I think he wasn’t too nice. When President Trump met with the British Prime Minister, he wasn’t too nice to him.

Speaker 2 Need Yeah, so we see that there is a big divide between the two. Personally, as a European I find it actually refreshing and quite good because it’s time for Europe to decide if it wants to actually stand on its own two legs and create a cohesive European Union one worrich. Each member country is not actually competing with

another member country, but rather realizes that stronger they are together, much stronger, and therefore they need to do what the US is doing. Put Europe first. I’m not sure we’re going to get there.

Speaker 1 Thank you European out of time, but I agree with you that we’re stronger together than being a put. But keep your eyes open and let’s report in next week and see what the consequences are.

Speaker 2 Thank you and enjoy your Sunday.
