Well, today we’re going to talk about a serious disease goal Alzheimer’s disease, which causes cognitive decline and eventually can kill people. And we get in the world about ten million new cases of a year. And the other day, just four days ago, in the gem And network, a really amazing study was published that showed something that we’ve
been talking about on WABC for quite a number of years, and that was that when they looked at ninety thousand plus people over a twenty eight year period, they found that the people who we’re ingesting a little over half a tablespoon of olive oil a day, and preferably extravergin olive oil, they had a twenty eight percent last chance
of dying of dementia and getting Alzheimer’s disease. And that is a really really big deal. But what happens it bin, Well, I think it has these powerful anti accident effects and it has something in a called olaic acid, which helps to activate these longevity genes quotes ortoins. And we know that twenty percent of our destiny of genes and eighty
percent is how we live. So another thing that’s interesting in the study, there are genetic markers call a po E four genes that if you have it, you have a five to nine time greater chance of getting Alzheimer’s.
But even those people who have that genetic marker, in this study, they found that it also even reduced the incidence of getting the Alzheimer’s even in those people who have the genetic pre disposition. So it shows that for example, I might have the genetic predisposition for diabetes, but if I can they thin avoid sugar, I’d eat a bunch
of you know, chocolate cakes and what you know, like like a lot of us used to do. And we used to come home from school and watch Star Trek. That really that just the simple thing like a dietari intervention.
And also the other thing that’s come out. In the blue zones, they found that the common secret sauce was the olaic acid and olive oil and all the Blue zones and in Loma Linda, even though they don’t have as much olive oil. They found that they eat a lot of avocados, which also has the secret sauce called
olaic acid found in avocados and Loma Linda, So this was a major buddy. But also to go through the punch list, we also now know there are associations like high blood pressure. For example, keeping your blood pressure normal range that helps reduce the incidents of of of alzheimer.
As they found that maintaining a healthy weight, being physically active, not smoking, avoiding excessive drinking, and also things like preventing and correcting your healing loss because what comes into the brain is very important too, and you want to make sure that you see. Probably you take care of your vision, your ears, and another one of the major major ones,
they found that a lot of the repair for the brain and the cleanup happens during sleep. And during sleep we have a whole washing machine system called the glim Fattox, and when we sleep we do a lot of cleanup of dead and dying cells. And when you sleep on your side versus sleeping on your stomach or your back,
it’s much more effective. And they even found that sleeping on your left side it’s even the most effective and doing a lot of cleanup for a lot of dead dying cells. And this cleanup system is very important that happens during our sleep cycles. So these are just some amazing data and some simple things that we can all
do our listeners can do to help reduce our chance of getting that. And also when you shop for olive oil, try to look for extra virgin olive oil and look for the date because if it doesn’t have the date picked, it’s no good. And if it’s two years older than the date pick, then it’s considered rancid. And when you
see an olive oil and it doesn’t have on it the date pick or an expiration date, you really want to avoid it because it might not be real olive oil.
So a teaspoon or at least a half a tablespoon of olive oil a day keeps all timers away? Is that the new motto?
That’s it? Half a teaspoon of olive oil a day keeps the doctor away. And hopefully it looks like almost thirty percent less chance you’re going to end up with dementia. And in addition, we have all those other lifestyle things we talked about again top of the list is high blood pressure. Questioning your blood pressure is high, the blood
pressures in our brain say I can’t take this high pressure, so they become narrow, and that’s when you see on sometimes cat scans reports it says microvascular eschemia. That’s because the vessels get tinier because they can’t take the higher pressure.
So blood pressure control is very important. And one of the supplements you can discuss with your doctor too is a magnesium because it turns out that magnesium. There are different forms of magnesium. One of them is called glycinate and some people take that once in a while at nights help them sleep. But it turns out that that
magnesium also helps to lower blood pressure, which is another interesting finding. But always discuss these things before you start any program with your doctor and keep listening to WABC for more health test.
Taking magnesium at night it helps you put your sleep.
Too, that’s right, as it helps to sleep, and certain forms of magnesium like magnesium citrate also help you go to the bathroom better if you have issues with constipation. The magnesium is one of the master power fuels in many of the mechanisms of our metabolism and enzyme processes in the body.
For Peter me Hello, thank you so much, and let’s live long and prosper.
Thank you John for always keeping our audience educated. And we get the truth out every week on WABC.
