The importance of the human body filter. Our kidney.

Automated transcript · uncorrectedSunday morning with this, like every Sunday is doctor Peter Michlos and his nickname Live long and prosper and doctor Milos has saved thousands of lives. And Peter, congratulations and everything you’ve been doing and give us an update. What’s going on in the world.
Well, today’s JOW we’re going to talk about one of the most important filtering systems in the world, and that’s the human kidney and the importance of our kidney and how it basically turns waste products into urine and helps to filter our blood. And we have about eight leaders of blood in our blood stream and it filters that
entire eight leaders twenty five times a day, so it filters one hundred and eighty leaders every twenty four hours. And it has an amazing filtering system called the nephron. Arteries carry blood to it. And then we have a million of these tiny little filtering devices. And not only are they filters, but they’re also detectors. And those detectors
actually can detect our blood pressure. For example, if it drops too low, we can release something called rennin and that raises our blood pressure. It’s a detector when our red blood cells are too low, it releases a hormone call erythropotin, and we make more red blood cells. And it’s very important that we control this very delicate balance
of blood pressure and the toxins that help filter things, and kidney health is very important long term. The kidney, though, can be damaged if blood pressure is too high for too long. The kidney can’t tolerate the high pressure, so the vessels get narrow and that affects the kidney. The other thing is that when our blood sugar goes too high,
the sugar coats the vessels and the inside of the vessels with a sugar it’s called glycostellation, and then they don’t function as properly and they don’t know open end close properly, and that also can affect our kidneys. The other thing is that we can also form stones, because in the filtering process, just like you have a dirty filter,
you can form stones. And one of them is called calcium oxalate crystals. So if you eat, for example, to many too much a dark chocolate, too much spinach, and that actually can increase even too many beats. For example, if you overdo it, you can make more calcium oxylate and you form these stones, and the stones have little
jagged edges, so sometimes if you have one and you pass it, it’s a horrible feeling. Because we have two sewer pipes called eurytors, and they drain the fluids out into our bladder and we urinate. The other thing that can happen is you can have an infection because even though we drain things out, sometimes things like bacteria can
get into it and you can cause in the kidney and that’s called pylonephritis. And you can also get infections inside the bladder that’s called cystitis. And now there’s a lot of resistant bugs going around, so we have to be very careful. That’s why if you have a pain on urination or pain in your back middle it’s called
a flank, you always have to worry about a kidney infection. It’s very important to get a urine culture early on, and now in modern times, we now know exactly which bacteria it is and we can treat it exactly, so we know to kill it because now we have what’s called resistant and sensitive, so you always want to take
an antibotic that is sensitive to the bacteria that we have. And that’s why as time is passing. We’re seeing more of these resistance strains, and man has to keep up with making new antibiotics, develop new antibiotics. That’s why our pharmaceutical companies are so important for research and development, especially in the United States, and our supply chains to keep
constantly ahead of the game, just like we have to keep the head of the game in these viruses. So drinking lots of water to keep the filtering process going. And the kidney even sentence when you don’t have a lot of water in your system and it holds on for more water.
So what products you know? I mean, that is amazing how much that kidney does. What items turn it into stones to create the stone?
Yeah, things like too many spinach, too many, if you eat too many beats, too many, too much dark chocolate. That increases the risk of these stones called calcium oxlate. And if you’re chronically dehydrated, you tend to form just like if you’re filtering a filtering system with water. If you don’t get enough water going through the filtering system,
the residuce starts building up inside the filtering system. So that’s why it’s important.
Let me ask one more question. I mean, when you eat salt. You’re eating those little it’s like eating stones. What happens to.
Salt, Well, the problem with salt is that the kidney and the bloodstream sense of the salt and then it says, oh, no, there’s too much salinity, and it starts trying to dilute it, so it starts holding more water inside the blood vessels.
So guess what happens. Your blood pressure goes up, up, up. So that’s why we’re not designed original man. When we evolved, we had more potassium in our diet, and that ratio now has gone with all the processed foods, to more sodium, and that’s why we’re seeing more problems with high blood pressure and more kidney problems. And actually, a very famous
Greek American, a neuphrologist up in Tufts University, he wrote one of the first papers that said early man had, like me, eaten things with more potassium. We didn’t have the salt, especially if they lived up in the mountains.
But now with processed food and they add salt everything to make you more thirsty, to want to drink more soft drinks, to want to buy more drinks. For example, they throw the salt on in the popcorn movies, and that balance for man has changed and we’ve become more salt than potassium, and we have to address that. Now.
I think we are addressing it by reducing the processed foods. We’re going to have less salt in our diets, blood pressures will start going down, and we’ll go back to how we actually were genetically designed to function with actually more potassium than salt.
Understood and the complexity of the kidney is I mean our creator, I guess our creator knew what he was doing when he was creating us.
Yeah, it’s a master filter and very important to try to maintain kidney health for longevity and always take care of our kidney don’t stress them out, keep our sugar level under control and our blood pressure under control the long term kidney health and to help us live longer and prosper always to probably, uh, got the milos?
Anything else you want to tell us this Sunday morning.
I just want to tell everyone to eat a good balanced Mediterranean diet and to stay hydrated, especially in the summer, because dehydration can be very dangerous and can affect your kidneys because your kidneys need to constantly be moving fluid along you don’t want your kidneys to shut down. And when you have any signs of infection, pain burning on
your nation, see a doctor immediately get help, you know, because if you don’t treat it, it can go into your blood and go skid sepsis and you can end up dying. Because people one hundred years ago before antibiotics would die of kidney infections. Prospatitis is titus that went on treated.
Doctor Peter Mehlos. Thank you so much and looking forward to catching up again real soon.
Thanks for always getting the truth out on the Cats round Table.
